Fiona Carruthers
The inspiration for my paintings is the spectacular scenery of the South Island particularly the West Coast where I live.
The constantly changing environment sparks my interest and desire to capture the essence of the region.
To paint ‘plain air’ and getting out amongst nature is sheer pleasure for me. The use of on-site sketches and my own photos contribute to a studio painting. I paint on handmade Italian or French Watercolour paper and use artist quality Windsor and Newton paints. I prefer to stretch the paper to avoid cockling, as I use a lot of water to apply numerous washes.
I am a member of Watercolour New Zealand and like to contribute to and take part in workshops and exhibitions.
My work has been in the Australian Artist Magazine and has sold internationally.
